WE'VE BEEN REWARDED!

Team Nautilus earned a class reward by banking thirty compliments in their treasure chest.  The students chose to go to the gym for an exercise filled afternoon of fun.  From tumbling on the mats to playing basketball, everyone seemed to have a good time.  The afternoon was topped off with an ice cream treat provided by Mrs. Kelemen and Ms. Douglas.  We're already banking more compliments so that we can have another fun-filled afternoon by the end of the school year.
Look Mr. Pietras...we're going to pass the serving test!

OUCH!!!!!

We're just chillin'.

SWEET!

The class reward was tons of fun!

We're just chillin', too.

Active Listening!

Many thanks to Mrs. Dopudja and Mrs. Heiser, members of the Olweus Committee, for coming in to Room 104 to remind us of the importance of being an active listener.  By having the students participate in an active listening lesson, they were reminded of the importance of "listening from their heart."  The students analyzed their own listening skills and are working on using the techniques throughout the school day.

Congratulations to our spelling bee winners, Michael and Lauren!  Each of these students qualified as the classroom representative after competing several single elimination rounds.   Many students made good use of the study word list provided in effort to prepare for the spelling bee.

Michael and Lauren will compete in the school wide spelling bee on Wednesday, February 13 at 1:15  pm.   Team Nautilus wishes you both the best of luck!  We know you will represent our team well!

SMILES ALL AROUND!

It was a phenomenal day at NSIS as author Sigmund Brouwer and Hall of Fame superstar Bryan Trottier spent the day sharing stories and signing autographs.

Mr. Brouwer began the day at an assembly where he shared hilarious stories about what inspires him to write his books.  It was an interactive and motivational message that the students loved.  The giggles were in abundance as the students danced, sang, played the air guitar, and walked away with the message that we all need to have a dream and work hard to achieve it.

After an introduction by his son, Christian, Mr. Trottier shared a video biography of his life as an NHL player.  He spoke about the importance of being a good teammate, and about how the people in your life will support you as you strive to achieve your dreams.  He encouraged the students to focus on a dream and give their all to achieving it.  He also reminded students that a solid education must support this endeavor.

The afternoon concluded with a personal visit by Mr. Trottier to every classroom at NSIS where the students and staff were treated to autographs, pictures, and words of inspiration.  Every student was given a puck and an autographed sports card.  Also, distributed to the fifth grade students was the novel, Legend Pursuit, which was written by author Sigmund Brouwer and features Mr. Trottier as the guest coach.

We've had many assemblies over the years at NSIS, but by far this one left us with a very inspirational message.  It is our responsibility to create our own Stanley Cup......hoist it high over our head, and be proud of what it stands for!  DREAM ON!!
